About Shelby
My name is Shelby and I'm a native English speaker with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a TQUK Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language which is the equivalent to a CELTA certificate. I also took additional trainings in teaching young learners and teaching business English. I am a writer & public speaker as well, and am confident I can improve your writing skills and confidence speaking in public. I love animals, rainy weather, and chai tea.
Teaching style
I prioritize building my student's confidence by emphasizing self-expression over perfection. I believe confidence is key to language learning, which means not fearing mistakes and trusting that practice eventually leads to perfection. We'll have thoughtful, deep discussions allowing you to express feelings, experiences, and opinions you may never have expressed in your native tongue. I will use clips from a variety of media sources and we'll even practice common roleplay situations. Language learning should be fun and motivating, but you should also notice growth. My lessons will push you, but you won't even notice!
