About Ryan
I have a M.Ed. in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages), plus 20 years of experience teaching English to adult language learners. In addition to being a professional ESL/EFL teacher, I am also an avid guitar player and a father to two amazing boys. I also love to cook Peruvian cuisine, have barbecues with friends and families, and spend time with my family, doing everything from hiking outdoors, playing backgammon and chess, to simply watching movies and taking it easy.
Teaching style
I specialize in personalized instruction designed to meet the needs of business professionals and those who wish to prepare for international English proficiency exams (TOEFL, CAMBRIDGE, IELTS, etc.). I have also been a Cambridge Exam oral examiner for the past 8 years (KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE). Before I begin teaching English to my students, I always carry out a needs analysis to determine why they are studying English, what context they will need to use English, who they will need to use English with, time frames, personality factors, and personal/professional goals. This provides me with the necessary information to create a customized curriculum and clear learning path in order to best serve my students.
My classes focus on scenario-based communicative activities and strategic feedback strategies that reduce comprehension complications without wasting time on unnecessary accent reduction techniques (send me a message and I'll explain this point to you).
